“The most transformative professional experiences happen outside familiar borders — and Africa has been waiting far too long to host them.”
Deborah Aderibigbe is the Founder and Director of The Cape Global Collective, a Cape Town–based experiential education platform connecting global students, creatives, and emerging professionals to transformative African experiences.
With a background in journalism, media studies, and higher education, Deborah’s work sits at the intersection of culture, storytelling, education, and global mobility. She lectures in media and communication disciplines while concurrently pursuing doctoral research focused on young Black women’s engagement with digital culture, platform capitalism, and social media influence in South Africa.
It is precisely this vantage point — as an academic, a storyteller, and an African professional embedded in Cape Town’s creative and intellectual life — that shaped her vision for CGC. She recognised that Africa’s most dynamic cities were consistently absent from the map of international experiential education, not because of a lack of substance, but because of a lack of the right structures to welcome the world in.
Through The Cape Global Collective, she is building a new model for international experiential education — one that moves beyond tourism to create genuine cultural immersion, meaningful industry exposure, and intellectually grounded engagement with the African continent.
Her long-term vision is clear: to position Cape Town — and ultimately the broader African continent — as a leading destination for globally minded students and institutions seeking experiences that are not simply exotic, but genuinely transformative, reciprocal, and intellectually serious.
Our mission
A new model for international education — rooted in Africa.
CGC was founded on the belief that Africa’s cities, creatives, and institutions deserve to participate more centrally in global conversations around innovation, culture, and education. We are not a tour operator. We are not a gap-year programme. We are an intellectually serious platform for people ready to engage with the world on its own terms.
Cultural immersion, not tourism
Every CGC programme is designed to move participants beyond surface-level experience into genuine engagement with Cape Town’s people, industries, and ideas.
Professional exposure that matters
Placements with vetted NGOs, startups, and creative organisations give participants real work experience in a Global South context that employers and graduate schools notice.
Reciprocal impact
CGC is built to benefit Cape Town as much as participants. Host organisations receive skilled support. Local creatives gain global networks. The city gains the attention it has long deserved.
